Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is breaking the internet right now, and thanks to social media users R. Kelly is now trending, too.
As previously reported, on Monday night (Sept. 17), the FBI arrested Combs at a hotel in Midtown, New York City. This morning (Sept. 18), prosecutors released the 14-page indictment, citing racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. Details about what’s next and whether Diddy will remain detained are still developing.
Additionally, no mugshot of the music mogul has been released. However, a newly surfaced video shows the 54-year-old chatting with some men on New York Street for a reported 30 minutes before the arrest.

The Internet Is Chattin’ About Diddy As They Speculate About His Future
The possibility of Diddy getting arrested for a sex crime has been a conversation since last November. At the time, his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, filed a lawsuit revealing sexual abuse, assault, and sex trafficking allegedly at the hands and direction of Diddy. Less than 48 hours after the filing, he settled with Casandra for an undisclosed amount.
But the lawsuits kept coming, from a Jane Doe alleging sexual assault and abuse as a minor to a former employee who roped in several other celebs, and most recently, Dawn Richard. Additionally, in March, the FBI raided two of his homes, one in Miami and one in Los Angeles. Then, in May, CNN shared a surveillance video of Sean Combs physically assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway.

So, needless to say, the internet has been chattin’ about Diddy for months. Black Twitter (now X) has plenty to say, from the threads to memes and roping other celebrities into the conversation! With Diddy detained, social media users have already added R. Kelly to the chat, predicting what a prison link-up would look like for two of great music’s fallen.
Here’s Why R.Kelly Is Trending
For context, R. Kelly is still serving his 20-year prison term for a child sexual abuse conviction in Chicago. In 2022, Kelly was convicted of three charges of producing child sexual abuse images and three charges of enticement of minors for sex. He lost an appeal in August. He continues to serve sentences for the Chicago conviction and racketeering and sex trafficking convictions in New York.

Note that R. Kelly was previously behind bars in Chicago, but he was transferred to a medium security correctional institution in North Carolina in April 2023, per CNN. Diddy’s charges are based in New York.
